Grey Jade Trade and Invest 69 operates beef feedlots, beef back-grounding operations, piggeries, 300 emerging contract grower farmers and 6,000 communal breeder farmers in economically marginalised areas of the country.

The company targets its investments in least economically developed areas of the least developed provinces of Eastern Cape, Free State, and KwaZulu-Natal.

The company's investments unlock economic value in rural communities located close to our areas of operations by providing business linkages, technical support, and off-take opportunities to support community based economically viable, socially responsible and environmentally sustainable business enterprises.

Our operations

FEEDLOTS

The company operates beef feedlots where the best beef breeds are sourced from top commercial breeders are fed high quality grain based rations. Only top quality beef weaners sourced predominantly from Angus, Beefmaster, Bonsmara, Brangus, and Wagyu breeders are back-grounded and then fed to produce high quality beef for the local and international markets.

PIGGERIES

Our piggeries are stocked with high quality breeding sows sourced from global leaders of pig genetics, PIC and Danbred. All our breeder and grower network piggeries are located in the least developed areas of the Eastern Cape with the deliberate purpose of bringing economic opportunities to the most impoverished communities of our country.

EMERGING FARMER CONTRACT BACK-GROUNDING

Grey Jade Trade and Invest 69 has contracted 300 beef back-grounding farmers operating in 300 land reform farms across all regions of the Eastern Cape. The land reform farmers are supplied with light weaned calves averaging 180kg to 200kg. The light weaned calves are placed on back-grounding pastures and allocated small rations of highly nutritious supplements until attaining a weight of 280kg.

CONTRACT COMMUNAL BREEDER FARMERS

Approximately, 42% of the cattle population is owned by Black smallholder farmers, who contribute only 5% of slaughter stock. The red meat industry currently has little participation from the Black smallholder farmers, and this intervention seeks to address this anomaly. The project currently capacitates and empowers 6,000 Black communal farmers to become sustainable commercial beef producers and participate in the beef value chain.
